Makers.

Whether you are just here to share your work with others, or an entrepreneur looking to start a business, or an established business looking to lower your manufacturing costs – Makers like you are important to us. You are the reason we setup this service and are constantly working to improve it. We only hope that our efforts here will assist you in attaining your goals.

3D Model Repository

There are many 3D model repositories out there and like many of them, we offer our repository free of charge. An account is not required to browse and download files from the repository but is required to upload items to the repository. The repository has two sections:

the public section
for makers wanting to share their work with the world. This is our contribution to all the wonderful people who are part of the maker community.
the private section
for makers that do not want to publicly share their work but rather want their work stored for private use only (such as those items uploaded specifically for manufacturing purposes). Any files that are not made public cannot be viewed in the public repository – they can only be viewed by the account that they are attached to or, in the case the files have been submitted for quotes, by manufacturer accounts (certain limitations concerning what manufacturers can view the files are available, see details in your Dashboard when submitting a RFQ – Request for Quote).

Additionally, you will never see third party advertising while browsing our repository. The Maker Manufacturer Marketplace repository is meant to be place where makers can freely, and without hassle, share their 3D designs with the world. The commonly used sharing licenses are all available for your uploads and if there is a license that we are missing that you like to see added, please feel free to email us at support@makermanufacturer.com and we will work on getting that license added for you.

We ask that everyone who uses the repository respect the licensing terms set by the creators of the works in the repository. Makers spend enormous amounts of time creating the wonderful things they are sharing with the community and respecting the terms of use that they have placed on the items they created is asking little.

Royalty Payments

Makers who are sharing the works they spend precious time creating are doing a great service for the maker community. And we believe that if someone pays to have one of those items 3D printed, CNC milled, etc. that the creator of the item should benefit from that transaction. The following is our current royalty system for Makers:

We collect ten percent (10%) of the total from small manufacturing transactions that take place using our services. When someone uses our services to have a publicly shared design manufactured (if allowed under the licensing terms), the distribution of the collected funds looks like this:

PROCESSING FEES CREATOR ROYALTY MAKER MANUFACTURER LLC
3-5% 2% 3-5%

This is a feature that is unique to the Maker Manufacturer Marketplace and we sincerely hope that Makers find this both helpful and beneficial. We want to encourage Makers to continue to share their works with the world and believe that this system will help incentivize Makers to do so.

If you are not the creator of the item being uploaded to our public repository, and the licensing terms of the item allow you to upload and share the file in our repository (normally with proper attribution), you will receive a reduced royalty of 1% on transactions. We offer a royalty to non-creators to incentivize the sharing of 3D models in our public repository, but we don’t believe that such royalty should be equivalent to what the creators of the items can make. Additionally, the creator/owner of the item will have the ability to claim the item – at which time ownership of the uploaded item will be switched to the creator’s Maker account.

Items that are uploaded and shared in our public repository in violation of the licensing terms attached to those items will be removed when brought to our attention.

Licensing Agreements

When sharing your works in our public repository, you will find all the common licensing options are available for you to choose from. If you have shared your work in other 3D model repositories, be sure to choose the same license that you previously shared the item under. If there is a license that we are missing that you like to see added, please feel free to email us at support@makermanufacturer.com and we will work on getting that license added for you.

We take the licensing terms that you attach to your works very seriously and encourage you to bring to our attention any violation of your licensing terms that you see occur over our platform. We will investigate all reports and take measures to remedy any such violation(s) we find. Items that are uploaded and shared in our public repository in violation of the licensing terms attached to those items will be removed when brought to our attention.

Entrepreneurs and Businesses

While we hope that our free repository service is helpful to the maker community, the true purpose of the Maker Manufacturer Marketplace is to assist entrepreneurs and businesses in getting their products manufactured. It is our goal to connect you with manufacturers capable of performing the type of manufacturing that you need and to drive the cost of that manufacturing down by having those manufacturers compete for your business. No matter what type of manufacturing you are interested in – 3D printing, injection molding, precision CNC milling, tailoring, etc. - we can help connect you with the right manufacturers and secure the best price point.

The following is the fee schedule associated with this service (this fee schedule assumes you are manufacturing items you own, not items available in our public repository to which a creator royalty is paid):

Transaction Amount Transaction Fee
≤$10,000 10%
$10,001 - $100,000 8%
>$100,000 7%

We are certain you will find that using our unique service will result in a significantly lower cost of manufacturing than you can achieve anywhere else. Once you begin using our service, among other things, the following will become very evident:
